THE BIG LIE SERIES

The BIG LIE of Al Quds – Part 1

By Dr. Richard Booker

This is a continuation of blogs on THE BIG LIE in its various expressions regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict. THE BIG LIE is the source of all the conflict in the Middle East. It is a serious threat to world peace and our way of life. We must educate ourselves and speak the truth in love.

If you missed the previous blogs on this subject, you can read them below. In this and the next two blogs I expose THE BIG LIE of Al Quds (Jerusalem and the Temple Mount). This information is taken from my publication, The Battle for Truth which you may purchase at www.rbooker.com bookstore. Please order your copy and share it along with this blog to your family, friends and social contacts.

There is a BIG LIE that has been repeated so many times even the tour guides in Israel believe it and pass the myth on to tourists. The BIG LIE is that the Temple Mount is the “third holiest site” in Islam. But let’s look at the facts.

Al Quds is the Arabic word for Jerusalem and includes the Temple Mount. We are constantly told that Islam has historical claims to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. We are told that Jerusalem is sacred to the three great monotheistic faiths of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. But is it really? Or is this another clever BIG LIE?

We can tell how important a person, place or thing is to people by how often they speak of that person, place or thing. We speak most about what we love and cherish. Since people talk most about that which is dear to them, we should be able to get a good idea of how important Jerusalem is to Jews and Arabs by reading their holy books, the Hebrew Bible for the Jews and the Koran for the Arab Muslims.

In reading these sacred books, we discover that Jerusalem is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible. There are 657 references in the Tanakh and 154 references in the New Testament. Yet, Jerusalem is not mentioned even once in the Koran. Surprise, surprise! We do not have to be brilliant to grasp what this means.

Jerusalem is the heart of Judaism as epitomized in the vow, “Next Year in Jerusalem.” The Psalmist expresses the longings in the Jewish heart for Jerusalem with these words, “If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember you, let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth—if I do not exalt Jerusalem above my chief joy (Psalm 137:5-6).

Isaiah expressed this same intense love for Jerusalem with these words, “For Zion’s sake I will not hold My peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest …I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth (Isaiah 62:1,6-7).

The Jewish sages of times past have said, “of ten measures of beauty that came into the world, nine were given to Jerusalem and one to the rest of the world.”

The words of Dr. Abraham Joshua Heschel should stir our hearts to long for Jerusalem, “Jerusalem is not divine, her life depends on our presence. Alone she is desolate and silent, with Israel she is a witness, a proclamation. Alone she is a widow, with Israel she is a bride.”

We certainly won’t find these longings and sentiments for Jerusalem in the Koran. There is no reason why Jerusalem should be mentioned in the Koran because Muhammad never went to Jerusalem. In Muhammad’s lifetime, Jerusalem was outside the sphere of Islam. The Temple Mount did not become part of Islam until long after the time of Muhammad. This was for political reasons and the desire of competing Caliphs to control their subjects. I will explain this in the next blogs. Muslims have only seemed to be interested in Jerusalem and the Temple Mount when the Jews are in control of them.

This historical fact should be clear evidence to any honest inquirer that Jerusalem is of supreme importance to Jews, but has had little or no importance to Muslims until recent times. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray facing Mecca. Jews make pilgrimages to Jerusalem, Muslims to Mecca.
